Matariki Heart | Katrina McIntyre

A beautiful hand embroidered heart depicting the Matariki - a star cluster known as the Pleiades. In Māori tradition, it signifies the start of the Māori New Year.

The hearts are handmade, and hand stitched using thread and beads.

Artist Bio

Matamata based artist Katrina McIntyre also goes by the name Buttonjar Gypsy. She creates handcrafted textile and embroidered keepsakes with the utmost detail and loving care. 
Katrina enjoys the process of both designing and stitching and although she completed her certificate in Technical Hand Embroidery at the RoyalSchool of Needlework, she soon decided perfectionism was not for her and has learnt to embrace the wonkiness in her work.
