Deciduus Gallery & Studio
Deciduus is a contemporary rural New Zealand gallery and working studio in Tirau — shaped by the changing seasons and the rhythm of making. Works are curated with care and given room to breathe. Exhibitions unfold slowly, inviting you to pause, look closely, and experience art in quiet dialogue.
Hilary Jowle’s upcoming solo exhibition Grounded opens on 11 April, bringing together a body of glass works shaped by memory, place, and a deep connection to the New Zealand landscape.
After 25 years living abroad, Hilary’s return home to the Waikato has sparked a quiet rediscovery—of familiar forms, textures, and the subtle rhythms of the natural world. Trees remembered from childhood, the curve of an estuary at dusk, the weight and presence of stone shaped by time—each work reflects a sense of settling, of coming back into alignment with place.
Working in layered glass, Jowle captures both fragility and permanence. Her vessels and landscapes hold traces of inheritance and family, while her tree forms and native flora speak to habitat, memory, and belonging. There is a gentle generosity in the work—a sense of abundance, of the land as both giver and witness.
Grounded is an exhibition of quiet presence. Of what sustains us, what we carry, and what it means to feel, finally, at home.
