Santie Cronje
South Waikato-based artist and gallery director Santie Cronje works at the intersection of abstract narrative, memory, and sensation. Having lived across hemispheres, her practice carries a quiet duality, drawing on the emotional and physical traces of the places that have shaped her journey.
Moving away from earlier illustrative forms, she now employs an intuitive, painterly language. Rather than describing a specific location, her process seeks to hold the feeling of a place, allowing forms to emerge and dissolve through gesture and layers. Alongside her studio practice, she curates and hosts invitational exhibitions, fostering collaboration and an evolving dialogue within contemporary painting.
The Winter Collection
The Winter Collection is a series of works born from a season of intentional slowing—an invitation to pause, observe, and find comfort in the quiet, unfolding rhythms of our days. Through a palette of muted earths and soft, atmospheric tones, these pieces explore the architecture of memory and the comfort found in the familiar.
Selected Studio works
A considered selection from the studio, this body of work reflects a practice shaped by layering, memory, and a slower way of making. Each piece marks a particular moment—carrying traces of what has come before, while settling into a grounded, quiet presence.
Presented together, the works offer a window into an ongoing conversation with paint—where surfaces are built, softened, and reworked over time, inviting a closer, more considered way of looking.
