Artist Statement
Through painting I have come to recognise a rhythm that runs through my work, whether it be asculpture made of clay or mixed media, prints using inks, or drawings using charcoal, watercolour, acrylic paint or pencil. There is an easiness, not bound by perfection.Photography allows me to explore my deep appreciation for nature, flowers, plants and trees, and family; a desire to capture the beauty I see.Within the objects or paintings created, I seek to celebrate the ordinary, the everyday things thatinfluence my life, the joy found in simple surroundings and daily tasks.

Artist Bio

Diane Parker wears the titles of maker, creative, clay artist and painter.

Her early years were filled with the freedom and wonder found in a rural landscape, experiences that would later become a library of memories that she would influence her art. In later years she was presented with an opportunity to rekindle a long-held appreciation for clay which turned out to be a pivotal building block in her creative Journey.

Her passion for clay propelled her through 16 fruitful years of discovery and learning, showcasing her sculptures and vessels in both local and National exhibitions, and the years of knowledge gained was shared through teaching roles.

Today Diane draws upon these rich experiences as a solid foundation for her current exploration using paint. She is embracing this new medium with zest and employing it to express her connection to nature, especially flowers and foliage, and celebrating the ordinary; everyday rituals and objects found in and around our homes.

It is a thrilling new chapter in her artistic journey, one that continues to intertwine her love of creation and the world around her.

“An artist is not special; an artist is an ordinary person who can take ordinary things and make them special” Ruth Asawa
