Artist Statement

My latest collection for 'In Good Company' is a celebration of what can happen when you pause, reflect, and allow joy to take the lead in your life. It's a reminder that sometimes, the best creations come from when we're simply being ourselves and enjoying the moment.

'I love painting still lifes because there's a feeling of musical, flowing experience. The drawing doesn't matter as much - what you're really after is a feeling of clarity and beauty'. Jacob Collins

Artist Statement
Over the years, I've come to understand that my artwork splits into two distinct areas. As a professional artist, I not only create pieces to sell and sustain my livelihood but also engage in creative activities that replenish my spirit and ignite my passion. I've discovered that allowing myself the freedom to explore and engage in playful creativity makes me a much more effective and fulfilled artist.

My latest collection for 'In Good Company' stands as a testament to the happiness felt when the soul is allowed its moment to sparkle. It was during this period I had the incredible opportunity to spend time with Diane Parker, an extraordinarily talented artist and a dear friend. The pieces are a celebration of what can happen when you pause, reflect, and allow joy to take the lead in your life. It's a reminder that sometimes, the best creations come from when we're simply being ourselves and enjoying the moment with good friends.

Artist Bio

Santie Cronje is a contemporary painter, based in the beautiful South Waikato region. Exhibiting through galleries since 2008. Known for her symbolism and visual storytelling, Santie's practice has undergone a major shift since the global pandemic in 2019, echoing her earlier style before she migrated to New Zealand in 1999.  Her work has become more painterly and the subjectmatter is deeply rooted in her appreciation for the land and the rhythms found in nature.

As a dedicated artist who has long drawn inspiration and creative spirit from both the tangible world and the deep wells of emotional experiences, Santie is committed to producing artwork that speaks directly and powerfully, shifting her focus to painting the essence of the landscape or the emotion itself. This transition has unlocked a new level of freedom and joy in her artistic journey.

Her paintings have been featured in New Zealand art calendars, articles, and books such as ‘New Zealand 'Gallery’ and recently '101 Contemporary Waikato artists' by Peter Dornauf. Her work is held in private collections both in New Zealand and abroad.
